Sharing God’s Gifts Through Apportionment Giving
John Wesley didn’t believe in random acts of charity – and neither do we United Methodists today. Wesley spent his entire life – a long and remarkably productive one – developing programs and institutions to share God’s loving gifts with all of God’s children. These institutions and programs became an integral part of the method in Methodism.
Today, through our connected congregations, our annual conferences, our general boards, councils and commissions, and our family of apportioned funds, we support and empower a rich array of Christ-centered ministries around the world.
The Africa University Fund is one of seven apportioned ministries. Africa University in Zimbabwe is the only United Methodist-related, degree-granting institution of higher education on the continent of Africa. In 14 short years, the university has grown from 40 to more than 1,200 students, representing 21 of the 55 nations of Africa. The Africa University Fund helps to support the teaching and learning that Africa University does. Let us “help keep the light burning” by giving to our “Apportionment Offering” each month.
Mission Projects
The mission projects sponsored and supported by our church in the early months of 2007 have reached out to our nation and to our local people. ASP Socks will help sponsor the mission trip to Appalachia this summer. We collected soup and money for Souper Bowl of Caring and the Lansing Food Pantry. Many items for health kits for PADS were donated to help the homeless in the southern Chicago suburbs. Our congregation continues to be compassionate and caring.
Another mission project is Layette Kits for UMCOR (The United Methodist Council on Relief). Many women around the world do not have swaddling clothes with which to welcome their child into the world. Layette kits provide basic supplies for their baby’s needs. Please see items listed below. Assemble your kits and return them to the boxes provided in the Activity Center. Individual items are also gladly accepted.
